Raccorderie Metalliche Celebrates International Women's Day with Theatre and Culture

03/07/2025

Raccorderie Metalliche reaffirms its commitment to supporting culture and the local community by hosting a special event to mark 8 March – International Women's Day.
On Friday 7 March, our RacMet Academy was transformed into an original stage for RETROSCENA. Rassegna di spettacoli di teatro, non a teatro, a cultural initiative promoted by the Comune di Marcaria and the Biblioteca Comunale "Filippo Martani".
Taking centre stage for the evening was the theatre company Sipario Onirico, performing Le Donne Sapienti, a 1970s-inspired reinterpretation of Molière’s classic play. The production, steeped in the spirit of the “peace & love” movement, gave voice to female characters deeply passionate about both culture and counterculture. It was a vibrant tribute to the strength and intelligence of women – a perfect match for the meaning behind the day.
Thanks to the collaboration with local cultural institutions, the evening proved to be a valuable moment for reflection and shared experience, further strengthening Raccorderie Metalliche’s dedication to promoting culture and supporting community values.

This evening, Raccorderie Metalliche transforms into a theatre, so for me this is a completely new and wonderful experience, which I find exciting.
Therefore, gratitude is due to Mr. Carlo Alberto, the Mayor of Marcaria, as well as to Greta and Elena from the Bookstore. Special appreciation is also extended to Isa, who is present today; unfortunately, Rachele could not join us, and to Stefania, who consistently devote their utmost effort and passion to ensure these events are successful and always reach a standard of excellence. Therefore, they are my point of pride.

What motivated the choice of "The Learned Ladies" by Molière? It's a pertinent question, as our company was keen to stage a comedy in the characteristic lively style we are known for. It was indeed a significant opportunity to engage with Molière, who is among the foremost French playwrights. Upon reviewing the texts and titles, it became clear that staging "The Learned Ladies" or "The Intellectuals" was compelling due to its relative obscurity and infrequent presence in theatre repertoires, unlike other more popular titles.
Therefore, it proved a significant challenge to opt for staging a play rarely performed in Italy. On reading the narrative of these wise figures, these individuals profoundly yearning for culture, it seemed almost instinctive to place the setting in the 1970s. Therefore, in our setup, a Peace & Love theme prevails, where wise individuals, aficionados of either culture or counterculture as was often expressed in the 60s and 70s, strive to advance, as rightfully necessary today, the concept of Peace & Love. Then let's make love, not war.

International Women's Day Celebration. The Municipality of Marcaria and the Filippo Martani Library in Marcaria are celebrating women through a theatrical production inspired by a comedy by Molière, originally performed in 1672. This rendition is set in the 1970s and explores the theme of women's rights and their achievements.

Through this initiative, we aim to communicate to all our RacMet individuals, our team members and beyond, as well as to the entire audience and all guests present here tonight, that the true nobility of a person is not confined to the heart but extends to the mind. Knowledge, understanding, comprehension, awareness, and the ability to choose constitute their greatest freedom.
Today, despite centuries having passed since its first performance, prejudices regrettably still exist that suggest women should solely be responsible for home and family care.
With this initiative, therefore, we aim to celebrate the strength of each individual and the challenges they face daily.
Collaborating with cultural and local entities is vital for Raccorderie Metalliche as it fosters greater awareness among our workforce and collaborators regarding social and environmental responsibilities. Furthermore, it aids in sharing messages and values with a significantly wider audience and undoubtedly strengthens the connection with the local area, thereby contributing to the cultural development of the community. It is considered that working and collaborating together presents an opportunity for mutual growth.
