The reliability of a Data Centre is at the heart of any telecommunications company. For a major Polish telecommunications operator, ensuring uninterrupted server operation required investment in a state-of-the-art precision cooling and air-conditioning system.

In a project of this scale, where delivery times and system safety are essential, the choice of systems made all the difference. This is where Raccorderie Metalliche Pressfitting systems came into play, providing the ideal solution for the fast, safe and long-lasting installation of air-conditioning, cooling and ventilation systems.

Raccorderie Metalliche Pressfitting for every system

Rather than relying on slow and potentially hazardous traditional methods such as welding, the installer took advantage of the versatility of Raccorderie Metalliche press fittings, successfully meeting every on-site installation challenge.

The project involved the construction of complete systems for the server rooms to ensure operational continuity, safety and environmental control.

The main installations included:

Precision air-conditioning systems for server rooms (distributed system);
Precision air-conditioning systems for UPS rooms and electrical switchboard rooms (distributed system);
Air-conditioning systems for battery rooms;
Cooling systems for the air coolers of the air handling units;

Server room air-conditioning system

The system
The server rooms are equipped with a precision air-conditioning system designed to meet international standards (ANSI/TIA 942) and configured redundantly to ensure maximum reliability.
Each area is served by multiple independent units, ensuring continuity even if a failure occurs.
Each server aisle is equipped with 6 air-conditioning systems, arranged in groups of duty and standby units.

The Pressfitting systems were used to create the essential supply and return lines linking the external dry coolers, circulation pumps and indoor cabinets.
The advantage
Leak-tightness and “Flame-Free” safety. Thanks to Raccorderie Metalliche O-Rings, specifically tested for resistance to glycol mixtures, the risk of micro-leaks in a critical environment was eliminated. In addition, room-temperature assembly avoided the use of open flames or welding in sensitive areas, ensuring maximum safety during installation.

Cooling system

The system
Each server room is served by fully independent cooling systems, including:

precision air-conditioning units with compressors cooled by a water/ethylene glycol solution
dry coolers for heat rejection
circulation pumps
distribution networks and safety components

For the units serving the electrical rooms, return air is drawn from the upper part of the rooms via the units’ own inlet grilles.
The air supply is distributed through insulated ventilation ducts installed in the raised floor.

Installation speed and mechanical strength. With kilometres of pipework to install, the pressfitting technique enabled installers to drastically reduce installation times while meeting the Polish customer’s strict deadlines. In addition, pressed fittings offer excellent resistance to machinery-induced vibrations (such as those from circulation pumps).

Condensate drainage and sanitary wastewater systems

The system
The project also involved constructing the complex condensate drainage network for the numerous air-conditioning units, as well as the building’s sanitary wastewater system.

The Pressfitting systems used for the drainage lines ensure the proper flow of liquids away from the server areas and the creation of a safe wastewater network.
The advantage
Reliability in confined spaces. The compact, precise press joints made routing pipework through confined spaces, such as service voids or raised floors, significantly easier, where handling traditional equipment would have been difficult and potentially hazardous.

Water networks (hot and cold water) and treated water for humidifiers

The system
In addition to cooling, the project required complete systems for the supply of drinking water, hot water for services, and, above all, chemically and physically treated water for the sensitive air-humidification systems.
